FxSound Equalizer Presets Explained

FxSound ships with a set of genre-tuned presets designed to save you from manually adjusting the equalizer. Each preset applies a different combination of bass emphasis, mid-range balance, and high-frequency detail. Here's what each one is generally suited for.

Music preset

The general music preset applies a balanced curve with a moderate bass lift and enhanced clarity in the high frequencies, aimed at making streamed music feel less compressed. It's a reasonable default for everyday listening across genres.

Rock preset

Tuned with a stronger emphasis on mid-range frequencies where guitars and vocals sit, along with a firm low end for drums and bass guitar. This preset can make rock and metal tracks feel punchier without over-emphasizing sub-bass.

Classical preset

Classical music benefits from a wider dynamic range and less aggressive bass boosting, since orchestral recordings already have a natural balance. This preset typically applies a gentler curve that preserves the original mix's spaciousness rather than adding heavy coloration.

Podcast / Voice preset

Designed to bring spoken word forward in the mix, this preset emphasizes the frequency range where human speech is most intelligible while reducing excessive bass that can make voices sound boomy or muddy on small speakers.

Movie preset

Balances dialogue clarity with impact for sound effects and music scores, useful for streaming films and shows through laptop or monitor speakers where dialogue can otherwise get lost under background music.

Gaming-oriented adjustments

While not always a single dedicated "gaming" preset depending on version, many users start from the Movie or Voice preset and adjust slightly, since both prioritize clarity in the frequency ranges where in-game dialogue and directional cues live.

Should you use presets or manual EQ?

Presets are a strong starting point for most people and require no audio knowledge. If something still sounds slightly off — too boomy, too sharp, or vocals too quiet — start from the closest preset and make small manual adjustments rather than building an EQ curve from scratch. Small changes of a few decibels usually have more impact than large swings.
